NeoOffice 2.2.1

Posted by admin on 27 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Apple/Mac, Mac Software

NeoOffice Neo Office 2.2.1 was released today. It is a free open source Office Suite for Mac OS X. The software bundle comes with a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, and drawing programs, and is based on the OpenOffice code. I haven’t had a lot of time to try it out but I tried a Microsoft Office 2003, Office:Mac X, and a Power Point document with no problems. It took a while to load the files, but that could be because I am using a 2001 iBook. I will have to try it out on a more powerful computer and dig into the programs a little more later to check out the support for Mac OS X spell checker and Address Book.

Mac on a Stick

Apple on a Stick

I ran across this site and had to give it a try. It emulates Mac OS 7.0.1, so now I don’t have to dig out my old Macintosh SE to get my nostalgic Mac fix. Just for fun I painted the thumb drive and gave it some new decals to give it the “Mac look.” I know it doesn’t have the old rainbow Apple logo, but I wanted it to match my iBook. Here is a screen shot of my Apple on a stick.

I think I’m going to play some Tetris!

Cross-Platform Portable Mozilla Thunderbird

Posted by admin on 14 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Apple/Mac, Microsoft

This is a nice little way to keep your email on a usb drive and take it with you no matter where you go or what operating system (windows or mac) is on the computer that you happen to be using. The Cross-Platform Thunderbird uses the Portable Thunderbird application and a script written by Sam Krupa to make it compatible with Mac’s. It can really be handy for freelancers that have a day job but still want to be able to respond to emails during their breaks. There is also a Cross-Platform FireFox web browser.
